The Ross River

Our last stop on Sunday was a weir on the Ross River. Stuart had been promising to take the kids fishing. Sitting on hot concrete in the sun waiting for the kids to catch a fish is not my idea of a wonderful time, so I took a walk along the trail that runs along the river instead. This trail is very long, and Stuart bikes part of it on his way to work each day.

They are cute but they didn't catch anything.

My second kangaroo sighting of the day. There was a whole family sunning themselves along the river.

I couldn't stop taking pictures of the beautiful river. This is prime crocodile habitat. However, there are very few sightings in Townsville. Obviously, a croc would not be welcome here among so many people. A local told me that if one is sighted, everyone knows. And the animal is removed.

This was my favorite house along the riverfront. Most of the architecture here is very unattractive to me, but I loved this one!

A view from the center of the weir. The hiking path continues and goes right through Palmetum garden.
