Grocery Shopping

In many ways, shopping for food here is just like home. There are several large supermarkets including Bi-Lo, IGA, and Woolworths. The biggest differences are prices and the fact that there are no 'superstores' here. If you want fresh bread, you go to the bakery...

Then there is the butcher...

For most health and beauty products, there is the chemist...

And all alchoholic beverages are sold here.

Eggs are not stored in cold areas here. They are on the shelf like this...

Some of the foods are somewhat unusual to our taste. They don't care much for peanut butter here. Vegemite, however, is popular.

And most things are quite expensive! A 3 liter (3/4 gallon) container of milk is over $4. Six or seven dollars for cereal, and shampoo or toothpaste anyone?

Well, at least we haven't gone hungry. We also discovered some yummy cookies (or biscuits) here that I hope they don't sell at home.

  1. All the different shops must be fun! They probably have a much better selection that way... How's the whole wheat bread at the bakery? :)
